How to Become a Referee in London

Referees are extremely important to the development of Volleyball in London, and crucial to running a successful league. Below are the requirements for becoming qualified, and how to keep your information up to date.

Newly Qualified Referees

Once you have completed your training, it’s important to understand the principles, processes, and sanctions for referee management in VolleyZone.

Once you’re qualified, or if you’re already qualified, you’ll need to register with the LVA;

Steps to Get Assigned to LVA Games

To be assigned to games for the LVA season, please complete these steps:

  1. Step 1:
    Please register/log into your VolleyZone account: Log into your account. This is where your availability and game assignments will be housed for the LVA season.  The cost of the course is £79.25 (plus a service fee of 3.2% + 50p)
  2. Step 2:
    Update your availability by signing into the referee log in for VolleyZone Sportlomo Sports Manager, to update your availability accordingly. Please ensure to keep this updated throughout the season. Please note BUCS games are Wednesday starting at 10:00am.

  3. Step 3:
    Complete & submit the referee season form.
    Be sure to check the official venue locations to confirm the address of the matches.

Minimum Requirements for LVA Referees

  • Uniform: Referees are required to wear the official uniform. These can be purchased at Referee Kit – VolleyStore
  • Minimum uniform requirements:
    • Shirt: Kukri Technical Polo Shirt
    • Trousers: Kukri tracksuit bottoms or black unbranded trousers for indoor (no jeans, chinos, cords, cargos or tracksuit bottoms of any variety)
    • Shoes: Predominantly dark coloured sports shoes
    • Socks: Predominantly dark coloured
  • Whistle
  • Yellow and red cards
  • Coin
  • A measure chain/stick for the net
