IBB Polonia victorious against Malory Eagles UEL
On Saturday 29th October, IBB Polonia London travelled the short distance to South London to play their oldest rivals, Malory Eagles UEL, in the second round of matches in the Superleague. The match was a ding dong of a battle with it ending in five sets.
The match against the runners up of the last season was of the highest order and very level from start to finish. The hosts started with much greater determination taking the first set 25-21, but the second set was a reversal of fortune going the way of Niski’s team who were starting to find their rhythm. Kisielewicz, once again, was almost faultless distributing the ball to all positions and giving maximum opportunity to win points tirelessly. The third set was taken by Malory Eagles UEL, but the match was soon levelled up at two a piece; both teams had been giving their all throughout and some outstanding defensive pick ups overjoyed the watching spectators. The tie break went quickly and easily in favour of IBB Polonia, who had the victory in sniffing distance at 13-7; but a red card to Captain Kisielewicz handed the initiative and a glimmer of hope back to the hosts who even took the lead at 14-13, but the very end of the match saw three moments of genius in serve reception and defence to gift the match in favour of IBB Polonia London.
I am pleased with the victory over Malory Eagles UEL, as they are one of the best teams in the country and they too will be hoping for the title this season.
They are a very tough team to beat and I think they will be our main rivals this season in our aim to regain our National title. games against them have always been very even and equally challenging. This was how it was on Saturday; we started poorly, but it is worth noting this was only our second competitive game this season. The first set was a struggle, but we got into gear in the second set comfortably. The third and fourth sets were anybody’s to win, but after the final ball had been put down, it was us who were the victors. I am very pleased with the victory and to come away with two points at a challenging venue. I congratulate my players and thank them for their hard work” said Coach Gregorz Niski after the win.
